FIVE VALUES. FIVE QUESTIONS. ONE CHURCH.
At Calvary Temple, our five values describe who we believe God is calling us to be as a church.
That said, we believe values should be more than words on a wall. They should shape the way we live, the way we lead, and the way we follow Jesus.
That’s why each of our five values is connected to a simple question.
These questions help us take our church-wide values and make them personal.
They give us a way to pause, reflect, and ask: How am I actually living this out?
The question helps us move from what we say we value to how we actually live.
WE ARE SPIRIT EMPOWERED
Who am I following?
WE ARE INTENTIONALLY DIVERSE
Who am I including?
WE ARE FUTURE ORIENTED
Who am I becoming?
WE ARE OUTWARD FOCUSED
Who am I empowering?
WE ARE GROWTH MINDED
Who am I reaching?
These questions aren't meant to be something we simply answer once.
They are questions we keep asking ourselves day by day as we follow Jesus, grow together, and live out our calling.
We call these our FIBER values because, just like individual fibers are woven together to create something stronger, our five values are woven together to shape who we are as a church.
No single fiber tells the whole story. Together, they create something stronger.
Five values that define who we are.
Five questions that help us live them out.
One church, woven together around Jesus.

VALUE # 1
WE ARE SPIRIT EMPOWERED
We are people of prayer who listen to Jesus and do what He says.
We believe following Jesus is more than simply knowing about Him. It’s learning to hear His voice, trust His direction, and depend on the Holy Spirit in every part of our lives.
Life can be busy, complicated, and exhausting. Sometimes we know exactly what to do, and sometimes we’re not sure what the next step should be.
That’s why we pray.
We believe the Holy Spirit still speaks, leads, comforts, empowers, and changes lives. We want to be a church that doesn’t simply make plans and ask God to bless them, but a people who listen to Jesus and follow where He leads.
So how do we personalize this value?
We ask: WHO AM I FOLLOWING?
Am I following Jesus, or am I simply following my own plans, preferences, and ambitions?
Am I making space to hear His voice? Am I willing to follow even when He leads me somewhere I wouldn’t have chosen for myself?
Following Jesus is a lifelong journey.
We don’t have to have all the answers. We just have to be willing to follow.

VALUE # 2
WE ARE INTENTIONALLY DIVERSE
We celebrate our differences and make room for people to feel seen, known, and loved.
Calvary Temple looks a lot like Winnipeg.
Different cultures.
Different generations.
Different backgrounds.
Different stories. Some have been part of this church for decades. Others came to church for the first time last week!
And we love that.
We’re not all the same… and we don’t want to be.
Our diversity isn't simply something we celebrate; it’s something we practice.
That means making room for people who may not look like us, think like us, speak like us, or come from the same place we do.
So how do we personalize this value?
We ask: WHO AM I INCLUDING?
Who am I making room for?
Who might feel like they don’t belong?
Who is different from me that God might be asking me to know, love, and welcome?
Church is not about finding people who are just like us.
It’s about becoming a people where everyone has a place and where there is always room at our table for someone else.

VALUE # 3
WE ARE GROWTH MINDED
We believe following Jesus means becoming more like Jesus.
None of us has arrived.
Following Jesus is a journey, and every one of us is somewhere along the way. There will be seasons when we’re growing, seasons when we’re struggling, and seasons when we’re simply trying to figure things out.
That’s okay.
You don’t have to have it all together to belong here.
But we also don’t want to stay where we are.
We believe God is always inviting us to grow… to know Him more, become more like Jesus, discover our gifts, and become the people He created us to be.
So how do we personalize this value?
We ask: WHO AM I BECOMING?
Am I growing in my relationship with Jesus?
Am I becoming more loving, generous, courageous, and compassionate?
Am I becoming the person God created me to be?
Growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens over our lifetime… one step at a time.
Wherever you are, you always have a next step.

VALUE # 4
WE ARE FUTURE ORIENTED
We honour those who came before us while investing in those who come after us.
As the first Pentecostal church in Western Canada, we are eternally grateful for the people who came before us.
Their prayers, faith, sacrifice, and generosity helped make Calvary Temple what it is today. We stand on the shoulders of the people who believed God had something worth building.
And now it’s our turn.
We believe the church is bigger than any one generation. So, we want to honour our past while building something the next generation can inherit…and help lead.
That means creating opportunities for people to grow, serve, lead, and discover what God has placed inside them.
So how do we personalize this value?
We ask: WHO AM I EMPOWERING?
Who am I investing in?
Who am I encouraging?
Who am I giving an opportunity to lead?
Who will be stronger because I chose to pour into them?
We don’t want to simply build something that lasts for us.
We want to build something that will bless the generations we may never see.

VALUE # 5
WE ARE OUTWARD FOCUSED
We love our city and care for the people beyond our walls.
We believe church is about more than what happens on Sunday.
We love Winnipeg.
As a downtown church, we like to say that we are located in the heart of the city with a heart for the city.
We believe the Church should make a difference in the place it calls home.
That means caring for our neighbours, serving people who are hurting, welcoming newcomers, supporting families, noticing people who feel overlooked, and carrying the hope of Jesus beyond our walls.
We don’t want to be known simply as a great church to attend.
We want all of Winnipeg to be better because Calvary Temple is here.
So how do we personalize this value?
We ask: WHO AM I REACHING?
Who in my world needs hope?
Who needs encouragement?
Who needs to know they are seen?
Who might God be asking me to invite, serve, love, or simply sit beside?
You don’t have to be a pastor, a leader, or a longtime Christian to make a difference.
There is always someone who needs what you carry.
