SUNDAY SERVICE SURVEY

EXPLORING THE FUTURE OF WORSHIP AT CALVARY TEMPLE

FAQ

What services do you offer?

Over the past several years, God has been blessing Calvary Temple with significant growth, especially among young families, new believers, and people who are exploring faith for the first time. As we look to the future, we’re asking an important question:

How can we become one church with one voice while continuing to reach the next generation while simultaneously honouring the past generations that built this church?

Our desire is not simply to change music or service times. Our desire is to strengthen our unity, increase our effectiveness, and position Calvary Temple for future growth.

What exactly is being proposed?

2

One possibility we are exploring is moving from two different worship styles to two identical worship experiences at 9:30am and 11:15am. It is important to understand what this is…and what it is not.

This is NOT a proposal to eliminate the traditional service and simply hold two contemporary services. Instead, we are exploring something new.

Imagine a worship experience similar to our summer 10:00 am services… modern in presentation, warm and welcoming, featuring both current worship songs and timeless hymns arranged in fresh, modern ways, and enhanced by the richness of our choir.

The goal is not to choose between old and new. The goal is to create a worship experience where every generation can genuinely worship together.

Are any decisions already made?

3

No. We are in a season of prayer, listening, and discernment. This survey is one of several ways we are gathering input from our church family before making any final decisions.

Is this survey a vote?

No. This survey is designed to help us better understand what our congregation values, what excites people, and what questions or concerns we should thoughtfully consider before moving forward.

Every response matters.

Why consider one unified worship experience?

5

Over time, our two services have developed into two distinct worship cultures and congregations. While both faithfully worship Jesus, we believe there is great value in becoming one congregation with one shared identity.

Research and the experience of many growing churches suggest that unified worship experiences can:

  • Strengthen church culture.

  • Build relationships across generations.

  • Create a clearer experience for guests.

  • Focus volunteer and ministry resources.

  • Reinforce one shared vision and mission.

Moving forward, Our hope is that people would identify less with a service style and more with belonging to Calvary Temple.

Does this mean hymns are going away?

6

Not at all. Some of the richest theological songs ever written are hymns, and we want to continue singing them. Rather than preserving them only in a traditional format, we hope to introduce them to every generation through fresh musical arrangements while retaining their biblical depth and timeless message. Our heritage is something we want to celebrate… not leave behind!

Why change the service times?

7

The proposed times of 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. would:

  • Create a break from past service expectations and make space for a new identity

  • Churches of similar sizes have made this switch and found a better balance in attendance numbers between services

  • Similar services create more options when balancing young families or work schedules

  • Create two mirrored services that are easier to sustain as our church continues to grow.

Will long-time attenders still feel at home?

8

Absolutely. Those who have faithfully built and sustained this church are a treasured part of our story.

This proposal is not about replacing one generation with another. It is about inviting every generation into a shared worship experience where older believers pass on a rich heritage of faith while younger believers bring fresh passion and energy.

We believe the strongest churches are intergenerational churches!

Why is unity such an important goal?

9

Jesus prayed, ā€œI pray that they will all be one… then the world will believe that you sent me.ā€ (John 17:21) Unity has always been one of the Church’s greatest testimonies. Our prayer is that Calvary Temple would increasingly be known not for having different worship styles, but for being one church united around one mission: Making disciples who make a difference.

How can I participate?
